The Niagara Falls are a popular sight for a day-trip from Toronto or New York. This year the weather was crazy and both, the US and Canada, got hit with many snow and ice blizzards. Once again extremely cold temperatures made some magic happen.
Frozen Niagara Falls
No, they are not the tallest waterfall in the world. The tallest waterfall in the world is Venezuela’s Angel Falls, which plunges 3,212 feet (979 meters), according to the National Geographic Society.
However, during winter season, the Niagara Falls turn into beautiful ice sculptures as you can see in the images below. Just one little tip: Yes, they are surely worth a visit and magnificently beautiful. But I would not recommend taking one of these touristy guided tours. In my opinion, that is not worth the money.
Take public transportation
I would always check out the Canadian side, since there you will find most of the gorgeous views. Simply take public transportation from Toronto. When you are in New York, just hop on the plane to Toronto for 100 bucks and enjoy a long weekend in Ontario’s capital. Here, you will find some cheap accomodation tips.
From Toronto, just take the Megabus to Niagara Falls. It’s a two-hour ride and costs between 30 and 40 Canadian Dollars for a round-trip ticket. It’s cheaper on weekends.
Since you cannot go on a boat ride during winter season, you can decide right at the Falls, if you wanna buy tickets for any other attraction just like going behind the falls – depending on the weather and what mood you are in. But anything else is just a tourist rip-off and not really worth it.
