Winter has finally arrived and many ski lifts are open already! For me personally, it is the best time of the year. Magical, white mountains, lots of powder and winter romance. Hence, I have already made plans for ALL weekends in December, January AND February. Nope, I am not kidding! Since I live in Munich, the most magical places are nearby. Whether I go by bus, train or car, it’s all between a one-hour and three-hour drive. So, be prepared to read LOADS of outdoor stories over the next weeks. Below, you will find some of my highlights in the first holiday Region of the Zillertal!

December 8-10: Opening Kristallhütte

The Kristallhütte is among the best gourmet mounain huts in Austria. The magical sun terrace opens up on December 8, promising magical views from an altitude of 2.147m. Take me to heaven, now!

December 15-17: SkiFood Festival

I already introduced it a bit earlier and cannot wait to there myself! Gourmet food from seven different countries and some of the best slopes in the region: On December 16 I am getting spoiled at the first Ski Food Festival in the Hochzillertal-Kaltenbach region.

Winter sports enthusiasts can expect perfectly groomed slopes, family friendliness, easy accessibility and outstanding cuisine at the restaurants and mountain huts.

December 22: Opening Spieljochbahn

Last year I introduced the Spieljoch area – mountain fun for the whole family. A ride on the Spieljochbahn in Fügen in Zillertal takes visitors into the magnificent Zillertal mountains. Once at the top you can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views – from the Tux Alps to the Karwendel Mountains. Spieljoch is the point of departure for numerous hiking and mountain bike trails.

February 8-10: Big Mountain Hochfügen

This is one of my favorites and I hope that I will be able to attend it or that I will at least get loads of images and video material of the Freeride World Tour.

The “Big Mountain” in the Zillertal valley is actually the daunting Hochfügen Ostwand with a gradient of up to 40 percent. As part of the Freeride World Qualifier Tour, this spectacular mountain face is providing 70 freeriders from the up-and-coming international freeriding elite with countless opportunities to achieve perfect lines. The event is a key day in the Freeride World Tour Qualifier (FWQ) racing calendar, as riders will compete in the highest racing category (4*) to gain crucial race ranking points and to win prize money totalling 10,000 euros. The Spectator Area at 8er Alm provides the perfect setting for following the top-class freeriding competition up close, while in the neighbouring Expo Area, the sponsors present the latest freeriding equipment and accessories.

March 3/31: Full Moon Skiing Hochfügen-Hochzillertal

HELLO?! Can it get even more romantic and magical? Gourmet dinner, some fine wine and moonlight skiing from the Kristallhütte to the base. Well, if you are still looking for a Christmas gift for an outdoor enthusiast, this should be on your list.

April 5-8: Winzer Wedelcup

The 7th Winzer Wedelcup is waiting for you! Outstanding wines, exquisite cuisine and athletic challenges on the ski slopes and on the golf course – you will experience this special combination only at one event: the Winzer Wedelcup in Hochzillertal.

April 14: Jazz Brunch Kristallhütte

Where are all the jazz fans? Get ready for some fine wine, great music, magical views over the Zillertal and just live a little. Enjoy yourself and get together with your friends for a cozy, luxury-day out in the mountains.

Well, I hope you are inspired by some of the events above. No matter, what you prefer, make sure to enjoy the winter season with your beloved ones and simply LIVE!
