One family – one story. The courage to develop and enthusiasm for different ideas have always been pivotal factors. The origin of these endeavours lies in the allure of the mountains. As a result the first cable car became a necessity. The first cable car very soon became several cable cars systems, several ski resorts and several enterprises.

Who am I talking about? The Schultz Family! Their personal commitment and the passion they plough into their business is evident in all projects. The Schultz Gruppe stands for the ultimate skiing experience. Their resorts and accomodations are a winning combination of state of the art infrastructure, high quality artificial snow making facilities and fantastic restaurants.

And it is all true. I got to meet Martha Schultz in person – during our stay at the Gradonna Mountain Resort – and felt truly inspired by her warmth, passion and professionalism.

Hence, I decided to do a little interview with Martha Schultz on her mom’s beautiful, nostalgic guest house in Fügen.

Haus Martha

“Haus Martha” is a lovely guest house – situated in the center of the village, but also very quiet and peaceful. The city center is within a five-minute walking distance and you easily reach the nearest sports facilities. The guest house makes you immediately feel at home with its retro charme. Pets are welcome as well.

When was the official opening of the guest house?

“It was opend by my mom Gertrud Schultz in 1966 as “Appartmenthaus Martha”, formerly known as a bed and breakfast.”

How did it get its name?

“It was actually named after me. I was the first born in our family and my brother Heinz was born here in August, after the opening.”

What is the family story of “Haus Martha”?

“My parents were both very young: my mother was 22 and my father 25. And back then they built this bed & breakfast or Hotel Garni with 50 beds – all on credit, since they literally started from scratch.”

What is so special about “Haus Martha”?

“We have many regular guests. Some of them have been regulars since 1966, which is very special. They appreciate my mom’s personal service, pretty much the little things as well as the hospitality from the people living in the Zillertal Alps. It is all very comfy and cozy, spacious, with little charming details.”

What can guests expect?

“Beyond the mentioned things above, a good 3-star apartment guest house in a quiet location, with large garden and personal service and hospitality by my mom.”

What are your three favorite location at the Zillertal region in Fügen?

“At home in our garden at  “Haus Martha” – a little oasis located directly in the city center, but still very quiet and peaceful; surrounded by beautiful old trees and cute animals such as hedgehogs, squirrels, woodpeckers or blackbirds – not to mention the natural lawn.

On the terrace of the Kristallhütte – a 360 degree panoramic view over the Zillertal Alps and the Karwendel.

In my own winter garden in our house. During winter I can look right at the slopes of the Spieljoch and Hochzillertal. At night you can see the illuminated downhill valley until 9.30 p.m..”

What are three of your favorite local cuisines?

“Tyrol Gröstl with Wilted Cabbage Salad, Zillertaler Bavarian Doghnut at the Wedelhütte and cooked potatoes with skin, together with Zillertaler mountain cheese, directly from the local cheese factory.”

How did you start out in the tourism industry?

“My mother comes from a farming family with their own cheese factory. And there they already rented some rooms to guests. When my parents then got married at the age of 19 and 21, they both saw their future in tourism.”

What do you love most about your job? What makes you different from other tourism brands?

“As a family business we do everything with love, soul and passion. We strive to foster visionary ideas, to develop them, and to realize them. You can say we feel responsible for our families, our staff and our next generation. That is what makes us unique.”

zillertal_vs_worldWell, I don’t know about you, but my brother and I could really feel the warmth and the sense of responsibility when we personally met Martha. She has high family values and treats everyone with kindness and respect – not just human beings, also animals, flora & fauna and the nature and mountains around us.

If you ever look for a trip to the mountains – all quiet and peaceful – make sure to travel either to the Zillertal Alps or to East Tyrol. It’s simply magical. <3
