The Waldhotel National has a great tradition! Their building dates from 1910: in those days, it was a spa and sanatorium, where people later came to recover from lung diseases. During my hiking adventure in Graubünden my blogger friends and I get to stay at this hotel and I am really looking forward to it, especially since I am suffering from asthma myself and my doctor told me that the climate would be perfect for me.

Waldhotel Arosa

It did not become an operating hotel until 1962. Since then, the premises have undergone several major extensions and modernisations. Smaller improvements to refine the details are going on all the time so that they can respond better to your needs and fulfil your expectations of a dream home-from-home for your holiday. But it is not just their hotel alone that is your “tower of strength” in the alpine world of Arosa; the people come under that definition, too.

Many members of the staff return faithfully to the Waldhotel and Arosa. When they say, “Arosa is addictive”, it’s not just an empty phrase. You will be greeted by radiant smiles on all sides – whether they come from the concierge who comes to the station to meet you, the receptionist who takes you to your room, or the restaurant manager who shows you to your table for dinner, they will warm your heart and stay with you throughout your holiday, making it harder than you thought for you to say goodbye. Fortunately, those smiles will stay with you to stoke up anticipation of your next holiday with us.

The Waldhotel National opened in the late nineteenth century as a health spa and sanatorium in Arosa. In 1910, it became a clinic for patients with lung diseases. One of the celebrity guests at that time was the author Thomas Mann, who started writing his novel “The Magic Mountain” here.

Between 1938 and 1954, when it was known as the “Waldhaus”, the property was used as a military hospital by the Swiss Confederation. In 1962, the Waldhotel first opened its doors as an independent enterprise, until it was transformed into a stock company in 1982. The owner, Mr. Andy Abplanalp, has held the majority shareholding since 1992.

The 124 rooms are panelled in local Swiss pine from our region and furnished with loving attention to detail. Some of them are very spacious indeed, thanks to the older building design. All of them have the same comfortable atmosphere of home with the personal Waldhotel touch. Your perfect “home from home”.

All rooms have en suite bath or shower room, WC, TV, radio, telephone, safe, bath robe and hair dryer. Some of the sunny side rooms also have a balcony.
