I have been doing a lot of research over the past days, trying to find the perfect spot for my adventure in Finnish Lapland. Since I am so not into traditional touristy things and prefer to be indenpendant, this is my final choice: Holiday Village Gulo Gulo in Ranua, located in the immediate vicinity of the Wildlife Park.
Gulo Gulo is the Latin name for wolverine. The wolverine is a rare mustelid living wild in Finland. Thus, arctic animals are part of the decor themes of their holiday apartments. The apartments are named after Arctic animals. The visitors are welcomed by snow-white animal figures: the polar bear, lynx, wolverine and wolf. In addition, the holiday village has apartments named after the beaver, the bear, the eagle owl, the Arctic fox, the raven and the elk.
The ten semi-detached houses in the holiday village have 20 holiday apartments, all furnished with all modern conveniences, and can accommodate a total of 120 guests at any one time. The surface area of 18 of the Superior apartments is 65 m2 and two larger Deluxe apartments have an area of 76 m2.
Their services include a restaurant, meeting and conference facilities, shops, domestic animal village, and playground for children, a playground made of snow and ice in the winter and numerous other services.
I could totally picture myself sitting in front of the fireplace, exploring the Wildlife, going on a 2-hour Husky safari, chasing Northern lights or going for an awesome hike in the great outdoors.
