As promised in my last article, I put together a list of my personal shopping tips in Sydney. I found most of the tips on Urban Walkabout, http://www.sydney.com and also got some great personal insights from trendscout Fleur.
Discover a limited edition print, a Japanese dress, a leather wallet from Sweden or an inflight bag that’ll make you the envy of your fellow travellers … in Surry Hills, shopping is all about sustainability, cool design, hard-to-find fashion and everything in between. Designer boutiques, quirky gift shops, homewares emporiums and specialty stores add up to a memorable shopping experience in Surry Hills.
Snap up soft Turkish towels, striped Mexican throws, knitted kids’ toys, black terracotta cookware from Columbia and other imported homewares at I Ran The Wrong Way, an ethical âtrader of good finds’ that opens Thursday, Friday and Saturday on Cleveland Street. Old-school writers can stock up on gorgeous stationery at Paper 2 on South Dowling, while bookworms should head to Oscar and Friends on Crown. Don’t miss a peek in Vivid, also on Crown, for gorgeous quilts and gifts, or Collector Store, for one-off items, fashion and homewares.
Rich in rag trade history, Surry Hills is still a clothing hotspot. For retro chic, browse the racks at Dear Pluto and, for fashion labels from Japan (and other cool gadgets and toy cameras), take a peek in Via Alley. Frequent flyers will love Workshopped and, for prints, Outre Gallery on Crown deals in everything from pop surrealism to underground art. Flight001 on Crown Street, a retro-modern boutique selling cabin bags, guide books and travel gadgets.
Many fashion boutiques double as homewares stores, but dedicated furniture buyers won’t want to miss Orson and Blake or Spence and Lyda. Garden Life, also on Cleveland, sells huge pots, outdoor art and lanterns and is attached to a great café, while Cloth Fabric on Buckingham Street is worth the walk for its stunning range of printed table linen, wallpaper, cushions, bags and rugs. Don’t miss the Surry Hills Markets held on the first Saturday of the month. (source: sydney.com)

When you are in Sydney, don’t try to shop for the regular classics or only shop at the huge department stores, try to discover the neighborhoods Surry Hills and Paddington – that’s a whole different kind of lifestyle and definitely a much better shopping experience.
However, be aware that Sydney is expensive! So, don’t forget your credit card 😉
