Australia has some of the best surfing spots in the world: surfers travel the globe looking for THE perfect wave, and many of those occur around the Australian coastline, in particular the infamous Bell’s Beach, located near Torquay on the southern coast of Victoria in the Great Ocean Road region.

Bell’s Beach is a popular sightseeing spot: High cliffs provide a dramatic backdrop to the natural amphitheatre of the beach and large swells from the Southern Ocean, which slow down and steepen over the reef-strewn shallows, create the outstanding surf.

For surfers, it is only for the experienced. The beach is an exposed reef and point break with excellent right hand breaks, at their best during autumn and winter (Australian seasons). There you can watch the world’s best surfers carve up the waves at the Rip Curl Pro Surfing Competition. If you are a pro and wanna dive into this amazing experience, remember to always take local advice on the waves, which must be treated with respect!

By the way, if you are really into incredibly insance surfing hotspots, watch the movie Mavericks, the final scene is shot at Bell’s Beach in Australia.
